Dr Maartje started her career in computer science research before transitioning to medicine. She completed her medical training in London, followed by GP training in St Andrews, Scotland, before moving to New Zealand. Her clinical interests include occupational, diving, and lifestyle medicine, and she is also an aviation medical examiner for the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority (NZ CAA).

Outside of work, Maartje enjoys spending time outdoors, making things, and learning about the natural world.
